Easter, 2014

Here we are.  Another Easter.  Another year gone by.  Once more we have been blessed and we will enjoy Easter with our children and grandchildren.  There are many traditions left over from our days in New York, and there are many new traditions.  I look at each memory as a blessing.

I will always remember the fuss we made over La Colomba di Pasqua.  Mom and Dad used to argue biterly over how much to knead the dough; how long to let it rise; how to make the shape perfect; and even, how big the beak and eye should be.  This is one tradition that continues in our family, and although it has yet to be cooked, I'm already salivating over what it is going to taste like.

Gay has outdone herself once more, but take a good look at that beak.  That's my handiwork.  I always like to make some token contribution so that I can say I helped.  She's good at allowing me to get my hands into the works.

I certainly will make a big contribution on Easter morning when this beauty hits the table

While the Colomba di Pasqua is one tradition which continues, a new outfit is, perhaps, not.  When we lived on Cottage Place, there was no way that an Easter would go by without my sister and I in new outfits.  Oh how I hated to shop for clothes, and I still do.  This picture shows our new outfits from circa 1956.

No matter how we choose to celebrate this blessed day, it is good to spend a little time contemplating the mystery behind Christ's death and resurrection.  I will never completely understand this mystery, yet, somehow, amazingly, my understanding grows a little with each passing year.  This year I will focus on Christ's obedience and love for us.

May this Easter Sunday bring peace and joy to all of you.
